Across 41,000+ active job listings in Israel, only about 12% are tech roles. The single most-posted job in the country isn't an engineer; it's a bookkeeper. Clerical and admin work, as a category, out-hires the entire software-building profession. So do drivers, warehouse staff, caregivers and cashiers. There are more open listings for forklift operators (189) than for AI/ML engineers (179), which is either depressing or liberating, depending on how you've been told to feel about your career.
If you've ever felt locked out because you can't code, read that again. The biggest demand in Israel is for common, transferable skills: management is the single most-requested skill, in roughly 40% of listings (8,000+ roles), followed by engineering, finance and bookkeeping, sales, customer service and logistics. Excel shows up in more listings than every mainstream programming language combined. You don't need a niche to be employable here, you need to be good at the ordinary things workplaces actually run on.
There's also plenty to go around. The market is big and fresh: 41,000+ openings, 86% of them posted in the last 30 days, spread across ~3,800 different companies. This isn't a handful of giants doing all the hiring, no single employer holds even 2% of the market. It's broad, and it's democratic.
Even the word "engineer" misleads. Most listings that say מהנדס / "engineer" aren't software roles at all, they're mechanical, electrical, civil and process engineers. Plain electricians out-list DevOps engineers. The hard-hat economy is bigger than the keyboard one.
