9 things that surprised us
- "Startup Nation" is mostly not tech. Only about 12% of active listings are tech roles. The other ~88% are sales, bookkeeping, teaching, healthcare, logistics and trades.
- The single most-posted job in the country is a bookkeeper, over 1,170 openings, more than any individual software role.
- Management out-demands code 12-to-1. Roughly 40% of listings ask for management or leadership; every mainstream programming language combined appears in about 3%.
- Excel beats the entire programming stack. Excel shows up in about 10% of listings, more than Python, Java, JavaScript, C++, C#, TypeScript and SQL put together.
- AI is already a real hiring category. "LLM" now appears in more listings (~290) than C++ (233), an acronym that barely existed in job ads three years ago.
- It's a Hebrew-first market. About 90% of listings are in Hebrew, and even among tech roles, roughly three in four are advertised in Hebrew, not English.
- English speakers face a Tel-Aviv-or-nothing market. Half (50.7%) of all English-language listings are in Tel Aviv, versus just 11% of Hebrew ones, so the slice open to non-Hebrew speakers is also the most geographically narrow.
- Pay is a black box. Just 0.4% of listings disclose a salary. When they do, the typical band is ₪11,000 to ₪20,000/month, always in shekels, never dollars.
- The door is nearly shut for entry-level. Senior roles outnumber junior ones about 3-to-1, and under 1% of postings openly welcome candidates with no experience.

Cloud & DevOps: AWS leads (510 listings), ahead of Azure (350) and Kubernetes (324). Notably, Google's own GCP is the least-demanded major cloud (250), under half of AWS, despite Google's large R&D presence in Israel. Generic "DevOps" (630) out-appears every single programming language except Python.
For English speakers & olim
If you don't read Hebrew, the live market shrinks fast: only ~10% of listings are in English to begin with, and half of those are in Tel Aviv. Greater Tel Aviv (Gush Dan) accounts for about 37% of all located jobs; Jerusalem, a bigger city, has fewer than half of Tel Aviv's listings.

Methodology
Based on over 41,000 active Israeli job listings aggregated from common job platforms in June 2026. Roles, skills, languages and seniority are derived from the listing text (Hebrew and English), because structured fields like seniority and employment type are sparse or noisy. The corpus is the broad Israeli labor market, not a tech-only board, which is exactly why "Excel and management beat code" holds. Figures are aggregate only and contain no personal data.
